Typically, to manufacture a product, we needed to subtract material (Subtractive Manufacturing) or build pricy molds. Thus, orders were accepted only if above a threshold quantity. 3D Printing technologies builds the product layer by layer (Additive Manufacturing) and it allows us to accept even orders of one unit and of complex designs. Due to the 3D Printing technology, all aspects of planning and managing the production line will be affected. We aim at understanding how classical methodologies should adapt in this digital era.
