Math for combatting epidemics

Prof. Haggai Katriel

Mathematical epidemiology and ecology

How can we prevent or reduce the spread of epidemics of infectious diseases? How can we plan an antibiotic dosing schedule that will eliminate an infection using a minimal amount of drug? How can we prevent extinction of endagered species? How can we exploit renewable resources, such as fish or forest, in a sustainable way? How can we prevent the spread of invasive species? Such questions are addressed by the fields of mathematical ecology and epidemiology. By constructing and studying mathematical models describing natural systems, we can gain insights and provide recommendations regarding the most effective policies
