“Most of the energy of machining that passes from the cutting tool to the raw material is transformed to heat. The heat transfer from the cutting zone depends on the thermal properties
of the raw material and on its configuration . Excess heat that is generated during cutting raw material may distort and damage the raw material and wear the cutting tool and limit its life.
Control over the temperature at the cutting surface zone is therefore desired, based on the type
of raw materials, cutting tool geometry and cutting conditions.”
