Call for Proposals within the framework of Israel-Germany cooperation in the field of cancer research for the year 2027

Within the scientific research framework of Germany-Israeli (BMBF-MOST) and as part of the cooperation program in Cancer Research, the Israeli Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology (MOST) and the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) hereby invite German and Israeli scientists to submit joint pre-proposals for innovative and potentially applicable research projects on all topics and aspects (prevention, diagnosis, therapy) related to the full range of state-of-the art cancer research (basic research/discovery/innovation to preclinical translation/validation and clinical translation).

The potential for cancer therapy should be clearly pointed out.

Clinical trials are not suited for this program.

Objectives:
The aim of this program is to support the development of scientific and technological cooperation between German and Israeli researchers and to strengthen the scientific partnership between research groups from both countries by establishing bilateral research networks, enhancing research cooperation, and promoting the exchange of knowledge between Israeli and German scientists. German and Israeli research teams are hereby invited to submit pre-proposals for innovative and potentially applicable research projects specifically in the field of Cancer Research.

Researchers are encouraged to contact their country representative mention in section O and P in order to find a suitable partner.

For Israeli Research Teams only:

  1. Deadline for researchers’ submission: The Principal Investigator must submit the pre-proposals in English via the “Science Forefront” system  a week before the final Joint Deadline, by 6th August 2026 by 15:00 (local time). The online system will be closed for submissions by the specified date and hour and no submissions will be accepted under any circumstances after the due date. It should be emphasized that a Israeli researchers, who will not submit his pre-proposal 6th August, 2026 by 15:00 (local time) will not be able to do so at a later date.
  2. A proposal that has been submitted can be edited by the PI, in coordination with the Affiliated Institution, until the final joint submission deadline
  3. The Affiliated Institution must submit the proposal not later than by the final deadline on 13th August 2026 at 15:00 local time (Israel time). Proposals that are not submitted by the Affiliated Institution through the Science Forefront system by this time, will not be accepted.
  4. Please be advised that as technical problems are possible, and the submission process may take a significant amount of time. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to fulfil the above steps well in advance of the applications deadlines.

Food and Nutrition Program

United States – Israel
Binational Agricultural Research and Development Fund BARD

We are pleased to announce the launch of the 5th Call for Proposals for the Food and Nutrition Program, a collaborative initiative by the BARD Fund, the Israel Innovation Authority (IIA), and the USDA-NIFA.

Program Overview
This program requires collaboration between:

  • A researcher from an Israeli academic institution
  • A researcher from an American academic institution (whose work plan has already been approved for funding by the US NIFA fund)
  • An Israeli commercial company interested in the research outcomes

The goal of the program is to apply innovative academic knowledge from Israel and the US and to realize its commercial potential.

Expanded Scope for 2026
This year, the program’s scope has been expanded to include the following fields:

  • Agricultural mechanics, robotics, and automation systems for agriculture
  • Production processes of artificial/alternative protein for animal feed
  • Smart, safe, and biodegradable food packaging
  • Computational decision-support models for agricultural systems
  • Health-promoting nutrition (technology and monitoring)

Call for Joint Proposals 2026

The German-Israeli Water Technology Cooperation Program

Within the framework of the German-Israeli cooperation in Water Technology Research, the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) and the Israeli Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology (MOST) invite proposals for bilateral R&D projects.

The research shall focus on solutions to the water problems in Israel and its surrounding area and/or Germany. The research should be multi­disciplinary and be applicable to the needs of the water sector. In addition to scientific partners, projects should preferably include industrial partners as well as related stakeholders.

Qualifying scientific applicants in this framework may receive R&D grants, respectively, from BMFTR and MOST according to the applicable national funding procedures and regulations.

Subject of Research

Research projects will be carried out in the following research area:

  • Innovations in water technologies and water systems
    The objectives of the German-Israeli Water Technology Cooperation Program are as follows:
  • Develop innovative solutions to water challenges in Israel and its surrounding region and/or Germany, with transferability to comparable regions
  • Catalyze industry adoption of cutting-edge water and environmental technologies
  • Support and strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the water sector as well as cooperation between science and industry

  3. A proposal that has been submitted by the researcher before the researchers’ submission deadline can be edited by the PI-PC, in coordination with the Affiliated Institution, until the final joint submission deadline.
  4. The Affiliated Institution must submit the proposal not later than by the final submission date, July 8th 2026 at 15:00 local time (Israel time). Proposals that are not submitted by the Affiliated Institution through the Science Forefront system by this time, will not be accepted.
  5. For the application, the required data is entered into the Science Forefront system. The Joint Research Part (according to the application form) and the associated files are uploaded as attachments.
  6. After successful submission, the output file (Research Proposal) from the Science Forefront system must be downloaded and sent to the German partner for submission on the German side (see instructions below).
  7. Please be advised that as technical problems are possible, and the submission process may take a significant amount of time, it is strongly recommended to fulfil the above steps well in advance of the applications deadlines.

GIF 2026 Call for AI in Science and Society

We’re happy to share with you the GIF 2026 Call for AI in Science and Society (which is now available on our website).

In General, the program invites innovative proposals focusing on the development, application, and societal implications of AI, across both STEM and the Social Sciences & Humanities.

It includes two tracks:

  • Collaborative Track joint German–Israeli projects, up to 3 years, with a maximum budget of €300,000
  • Solo Track (early career) – for researchers up to 8 years post-PhD, one-year projects, with a maximum budget of €25,000

The application process follows a two-stage format, starting with a short preliminary proposal and followed by an invitation-only full proposal stage. The portal is currently planned to open for pre-proposal submissions on 1 September 2026 (subject to change).
