B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering and Management

Message from the Head of Department – Dr. Nirit Gavish

Industrial Engineering and Management is an interesting and challenging profession aimed at improving and streamlining processes in which human systems, information systems, and technological systems are all intertwined. It is a rewarding engineering field that combines working with people and data, and offers strong prospects and a springboard for a managerial career.

Studies in Industrial Engineering and Management offer two specializations: Data Science, and Design and Operation of Production and Service Systems. Graduates of the department integrate successfully and, over time, advance to key positions in leading organizations across the economy—including the defense industries, high-tech companies, government corporations, the services sector, the food industry, and more.

The Department of Industrial Engineering and Management awards a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Industrial Engineering and Management. The degree is accredited by the Council for Higher Education and grants eligibility for registration in the Engineers Registry.

An industrial engineer is involved in the design, operation, and management of complex systems in both industry and services. To meet these responsibilities, an industrial engineer must possess broad knowledge in engineering and technology as well as in the social sciences and management. Industrial engineers must know how to plan and operate production and service systems, analyze, design, and implement information systems, understand the economic environment, be proficient in human resource management, and be familiar with marketing and management systems.

The study program is designed for four years and includes two specializations:

Data Science

The information revolution of recent years has enabled organizations to collect, store, and analyze vast amounts of data (Big Data) in order to derive critical insights that drive business growth. This has created a major need for engineers capable of designing data collection processes, cleaning and refining data, analyzing it, and drawing conclusions. Data Science is one of the most in-demand fields in high-tech and many other sectors. This specialization trains engineers with extensive knowledge in the design, operation, and management of complex systems, with an emphasis on algorithms, programming, data mining, machine learning, and artificial intelligence (AI). Engineers with this skill set are highly sought after in the field of data science.

Design and Operation of Production and Service Systems

The modern industrial world is undergoing large-scale transformation, integrating robotics, smart sensors, automation, real-time data analysis, artificial intelligence, and advanced simulation technologies. The specialization in design and operation prepares engineers to take a central role in leading this transformation. Graduates work in a wide variety of fields across industry and service organizations, such as system operation and management, design of production lines and workflows, specification and analysis of organizational information systems, analytical analysis and optimization of complex systems, work-study engineering, design and operation of production systems incorporating advanced technologies, economic analysis, and more.

The duration of the bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Management is four years. Certified practical engineers (Diploma-level Industrial Engineering and Management graduates) who meet the admission requirements will follow the regular program and receive course exemptions according to the table detailed in the annual handbook.

Graduates of the department successfully integrate into a wide range of workplaces across all sectors of the economy, and many hold senior positions in various organizations. Some graduates continue their studies toward advanced degrees at leading universities in Israel and abroad, as well as at the college itself.
